PRESS RELEASE

MALAYSIA FOR SYRIA (MFS)

MALAYSIA FOR SYRIA STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE ATTACK ON HOSPITAL IN AFRIN, SYRIA

On Saturday 12th June 2021, the world was shocked by the recent attacks in Northern Syria. The attack targeted a public hospital and residential center by using rockets through the ground and air space of Syria.

Following the attack, 18 civilians, including medical officers and humanitarian activists were killed. Thousands of civilians were seriously injured while several other facilities in the hospital were also destroyed horrifically.

Malaysia for Syria (MFS) hereby strongly condemns the attacks and the atrocities committed by the irresponsible parties as well as the crime against humanity for violating the human rights on attacking hospitals which are areas that are completely prohibited and protected under the international law.

MFS asserts the International Security Council (UN) must not remain silent on the incident and must act decisively by conducting a detailed investigation into the human rights violations incident and identify the responsible party so that they can be brought to justice as soon as possible.

Therefore, MFS urges that the attacks in Syria to be stopped immediately to prevent more civilians from becoming victims and demand all parties to comply with the resolution set by the International Security Council 2254 (2015). This is to ensure that the parties involved can renew their commitment by discontinuing hostilities while establishing accountability mechanisms and promising that such incidents will not recur.

“Mercy and compassion beyond borders”

Warmly regard,

Syahrir Azfar bin Saleh,

Chief Executive Officer,
